CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF JAZZ!

Brantford Downtown Jazz 2018-2019 Concert Series

Alex Pangman

Oct. 15 2018

8PM • Sanderson Centre

“Canada’s Sweetheart of Swing,” Alex Pangman is a singer whose love for popular music from 1920 to 1940 charms people in a graciously old-fashioned way. Her sparkly energy seems to come from some limitless source. But Pangman’s voice is truly her own, and she makes a specialty of breathing life into lesser-known music from the period. The style may sound familiar but “new” old songs have to be offered with first-rate diction and this, along with her special way of letting the song’s own narrative shine, makes for pretty irresistible listening

Indie-Swing chanteuse Denielle Bassels hails from Toronto ON. Her original music whimsically weaves a caravan of influences from her childhood and travels abroad from folk and blues, to Parisian jazz manouche and swing. In 2017 Denielle released her much anticipated album What About Wool Wishbags which has been described as “Ella Fitzgerald sipping tea on a rollercoaster with the Mad Hatter”. Denielle’s voice is as pure and rich as her performance style. She will immerse you in her tales.”There are few singers-songwriters in North America as original and refreshing as Denielle Bassels. A star on the rise!” – Jaymz Bee, Jazz FM 91.1
