| Tim Turvey has an ability to lead his group from behind the drums and push other musicians into improvising directions of percussion-based experiments - a rare live experience for jazz fans. Exceptionally hard to find is a drummer wailing on a four piece kit, at times, without wielding any weaponry - no mallets, sticks or brushes. Though he is capable of quickly switching between all of these usual ways of striking and thumping his instruments, it is his way of playing bare-handed that has listeners wondering if they have ever seen a style quite like this. Tim’s concerts can consist of myriad styles, from Jazz and Reggae, to Funk and Groove to Experimental, Punk Rock and Improvised Music. Tim brings all his styles with him when he plays and incorporates others eclectic forthcomings into the show. His music has been featured on radio stations CFRU Guelph, CKMS Waterloo, CIUT Toronto & other community radio programs around the world. Tim Turvey has toured Canada and played with some of the finest performers here and abroad. As well as a long list of recordings, metal sculptures, and many other creations, Turvey is a Poet. His lyrics cast a spell. He has a self published book titled, "Chimerical Meanderings" - A mindful prose of freedom and more. Tim can also be seen in the film, "Pipe Dreams." | Their music is a melting pot of jazz, funk and blues from a time not so long again when toe-tappin’, feelin’ good music was the norm. Much of it is based around the sound of the legendary Hammond B-3 organ, a time when any nightclub worth its salt had one of these mighty monsters in its own reserved place, stage right, for the use of all the powerful acts that would frequent the establishment. Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto and Montreal all were homes to nighclubs that featured this type of music. Artists like Jimmy Smith, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Joey Defrancesco, Tony Monaco, Tower of Power and Levon Helm. A musical tribute to these legends. This is what you’re going to hear. Secret Sauce is: Steve Beach pumping and grinding, laying down a sold background on the B-3 organ. Stan Szymkow on saxophone and vocals.
