| Brantford Collegiate was built in 1910 in which there have been various musical ensembles throughout the school's 98 year history. The past three years Shawn Oakes and Roger Winter have been building the school's reputation for high quality music making. The school has many ensembles including; Senior Concert Band, Junior Band, Jazz/Dixieland Band, Small instrumental ensembles, choir as well as a full scale broadway musical each year. This year the Concert Band received a gold in it's regional festival competition allowing it to compete at Nationals in Ottawa where they received Silver Ranking nationwide. The Jazz Band performed downtown Brantford this past June for the opening of Harmony Square as well as for a combined Art's in the Square Day. The Music Department's Christmas Concert will feature all the school's ensembles; they will also be combining with the Little String Orchestra to form a 100 piece orchestra. The music department will be featured at the Sanderson Centre in February to perform in the Young Artist Series. B.C.Iis happy to be able to provide a performing arts program starting this year and looks forward to providing young musicians a chance to experience the greatness of Jazz and all other styles of music with high level performance expectations. |

| Shannon Bent is from the Durham region in the town of Ajax where she has spent most of her life. She has been a student at Mohawk College for the past 3 years and will be entering her fourth year in September 2008. Shannon has been singing in her local church for over 10 years. Although she mainly sings gospel, she enjoys all styles of music. She sang R&B in a group of three called CS2 for four years while in high school. She has competed in female vocal category on several occasions and has been placed in the top two finalist in all of Eastern Canada in 2006. She also sings in choirs and many vocal ensembles. Shannon has been the choir director for the Junior and Teen Talent group in her local church for the past 2 years. She had the opportunity to sing in Power of Faith Church in Jamaica in September 2007, to over 800 in the congregation. It is the largest church on the island of Jamaica. In June 2008, Shannon received the Richard Newell Memorial Award for her excellence as a Jazz vocalist in her program at the Mohawk College. Shannon’s goal is to touch as many lives through music as she possibly can. |
