Brijana Blackmore

Brijana Blackmore is a Toronto-based singer. Though Brijana
began studying voice at the age of twelve, it was in high school
that, with the recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day, her
jazz education began.

She is currently studying Jazz at York University, were she was
recently a recipient of the Oscar Peterson Scholarship. Her
mentors at York have included such world class musicians as
Lynn McDonald, Rita DiGhent and Frank Falco. Her current
project explores Brazilian music through the works of Antonio
Carlos Jobim.
High Rendition Jazz

The High Rendition Jazz Band was founded in 2008. This not for profit band
consists of talented musicians between the ages of 14 and 19, from various high
schools in the Burlington, Oakville and surrounding Halton area, brought together
by the love of jazz. Their vision is 'to be a recognized high performance youth jazz
band, making our communities a better place to live by playing great jazz'. High
Rendition Jazz is in its third year of operation for the 2010 season under the
musical direction of co-directors Darryl Eaton and Dan Glowala.

Darryl Eaton was educated at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the
University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. He has toured with
the National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the big bands of
Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton and Canadian jazz icon Phil Nimmons.

Dan Glowala completed his Bachelor of Music Honors Music Education degree,
from the University of Western Ontario and later attained his Music Specialist from
the University of Toronto.  Dan is currently a music educator at Rolling Meadows
Public School in Burlington, ON.

The band has performed locally at: The Oakville Relay for Life, the Oakville
Waterfront Festival, the Oakville Jazz Festival and at the 2010 “For the Love of the
Arts Festival”.

In May 2010, the group was also recognized at the MusicFest Nationals Festival in
Ottawa, ON with a Gold Award in the Instrumental Jazz Division. The group was
also recently featured in the Winter/Spring 2010 “Arts About Town” magazine
published by the Oakville Arts Council.

High Rendition Jazz is also a member of the Oakville Arts Council, where they are
taking an active role in promoting youth in arts!

Miles Finlayson is a 22-year-old guitarist residing in Toronto.  He is
currently studying music at York University.  As early as age 5, Miles
found an interest in music through playing the piano and occasionally
receiving lessons from his father.  While attending Sir John A.
Macdonald C.I., Miles received the grade 11 vocal music award, an
award entitled “Best Contribution to the Music Program”, and awards
for his work in the junior and senior jazz bands.  At York University,
Miles has had the opportunity to study privately with Lorne Lofsky and
Brian Katz, as well as play in ensembles directed by Mike Murley, Mark
Eisenman, and Jim Vivian.  After completing his 3rd year, Miles was
awarded the Douglas Menzie Philips Jazz Scholarship for excellence in
jazz workshop performance.  He is joined by bassist Aaron Carter,
drummer Jon Foster, and his father Jim Finlayson on the piano.
